What are the purposes of a Will?

Although a Will can address many concerns, a Will typically achieves the following objectives depending on a client’s circumstances.

1. Name a Personal Representative (Executor) to administer your estate after your death. Basically, the Personal Representative is in charge of carrying out your wishes as stated in your Will.
2. Dispose of your assets. You name who the beneficiaries are and how they will inherit your probate assets.
3. Nominate guardians of your minor children. For parents with minor children, this is perhaps the most important element of a Will in order to avoid potential fighting among family members over who will serve as the guardian.
